Why Goodie Bags Deserve More Thought

When we started going to birthday parties in Canada, we were surprised by the tradition of giving every guest a goodie bag. At first, it felt a little extra. But we quickly realized how much those loot bags meant to kids. They became part of the magic. A way to make each guest feel special.

And yet, something was missing. So many of the goodie bags we received were rushed, disposable, or forgettable. It felt like a shame. The gesture was thoughtful, but the impact didn’t always last. Somewhere along the way, the joy of gifting was getting lost in the shuffle.

We believed there had to be a better way. One that kept the magic, but made it more meaningful and easier for parents too.

What Inspired the Name ODIDOMI

We spent a long time searching for a name that would reflect the heart of what we do. We wanted something meaningful. A name that spoke to the idea of giving, of sharing, of offering something with care.

ODIDOMI is inspired by the ancient Greek words Didomi and Apodidomi, which mean "to give" and "to offer." These words express the deeper intention behind a gift. Not just handing over an object, but creating a moment of generosity and joy. That spirit of giving is at the core of every kit we design.

And funnily enough, as we were writing this post months into launching ODIDOMI, we realized it also sounds a bit like "Oh dis donc !", a French expression of surprise and delight. A coincidence we now fully embrace, because every child deserves a "Oh wow!" moment.
